Sept 24, Gabcikovo, Slovakia
Just a quick post today. Yesterday, I gave a seminar in Bratislava, with a group at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. It was really great to meet all of these people!
On the way out of town, I snapped a picture of this bridge; they actually refer to this thing on top as the “UFO.”
Shortly outside of Bratislava, the bike route splits into two directions. I chose the one that followed river closely. As such, I will not enter Hungary until this afternoon, or perhaps tomorrow.
This is the only day in the European tour where I actually planned to get a hotel, because there is no camping to be found +/-50 km. The villages are fully of Gausthauses, pensions, etc. I found one for 45 Euros and that included breakfast, which was great.
I should add that yesterday I put the 3000th km on my bike for the Europe tour. It is amazing how much slower progress has been riding on paths instead of highways!
Today, I need to figure out how to get to Hungary. I hope to update soon.
