I got on the road to leave Baton Rouge at 8:30 Friday (11/18) morning, with my new friend Jonathan Cripe from the LSU racing team. John brought his cross bike, but he also does road racing.

I should add that, when John is not racing, he’s working on his PhD in physics. John got to be part of the big gravity wave discovery some moths ago!
The ride out of town was really easy compared to most large cities that I have visited. After a while, however, the roads turned into very busy thoroughfares, with no shoulders. But, I made it. I noticed a lot of debris from floods along the road.

I cranked out about 60 miles to a campground near Amite City. It started to get dark around 4:30, and **cold** as well. It’s always easier for me to sleep in a cold tent, and I relished the z’s. The wind was pretty bad, however, and one of the straps on my rain fly was torn off (it is easily fixed).
This morning (11/19), I headed north to join up again with the Southern Tier cycle route, and headed east to the town of Franklinton. The dogs continue to be a real challenge on the smaller roads.
I've passed several lumber mills. This one makes pallets.

The local police department in Franklinton is part of the Warm Showers network and I intend to camp there tonight! Tomorrow, I will ride to the city of Bogalusa and spend the afternoon working and planning for the remainder of the stage.
I will check in later,

  • I’m behind! Today I read TWO of your blogs to catch up. I’m so glad you had a companion for part of your ride. Check in to facebook if you would like to see snap shots of the cast/crew of our local musical. It was fun! Love you, Brother❤️❤️❤️
