Farewell to Colorado!

I left springfield this morning at 6:00 AM. It was cold, so I was wearing all of my warm gear. I had two headlights and two taillights; a trick taught to me by my friend Drew Clark. The idea is that multiple lights signify spatial extent and make it obvious that it is a “thing” in the road and not just a light.

An hour later, the sun came up. I made very good time and arrived in Boise City, OK prior to noon. This, of course, means that I had to say farewell to Colorado.

At the border, someone had used the pea gravel to make some statement about Texas; I couldn’t make out most of it.

Boise City has a nice museum and I stopped in briefly. The museum staff help run the annual “Okie Star Party.” I would like to go to this sometime; hundreds of amateur astronomers. Right next to the museum is “Wild Bill’s Campground.” I am here now. It has showers, electricity and internet. I seem to be the only person staying here right now. When I first arrived, I could not get the internet to work, so I walked over to the museum and called the number listed on the sign at the entrance to the campground (I have no cell coverage here). A nice woman answered and said that I probably needed to reset the router. No problem–the office is unlocked, and all I had to do was go in there and power cycle it. You know you are in a friendly small town when the office is unlocked! This reminds me of when I was growing up in Wyoming, where you always kept the keys to the car in the ignition.

I checked the wind predictions and it looks like I did the right thing by stopping here. Tomorrow morning, starting at 8:00 AM, I will have a strong tail wind to take me all 70 miles into Dumas, TX. I will check in with you when I get there!
