The Alaskan Highway was shortened a bit a few decades ago, and is now only 1387 miles long. But many of the original mileposts remain, including this one at the end. What a ride!<\/div>\n

The ride from Tok to Delta Junction is how I dreamed that much of the journey would be–enough small hills to be interesting, but not exhausting. A light breeze and warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt. Absolute beauty.<\/div>\n

Except for the BUGS FROM HELL. I expected the mosquitoes, but the ground and the air are alive with flies. Yuck! Several days ago, I bought 3 of those hair clip things to hold the tent closed, so at least I can sleep bug free.<\/div>\n

I am heading out of town now, and stopped by the Delta Community Library to use their free wifi. I ran into a guy who was interested in the tour and is going to try to arrange a presentation in Fairbanks. With all of the uncertainty and lack of communication, I never did get around to setting up a talk in the terminus of this stage, which was unfortunate. Perhaps it will happen anyway.<\/div>\n
